CUF hosts international conference on breast cancer
On 29 and 30 October, renowned and internationally recognised will meet at CUF Tejo Hospital for the "1st International Conference on Young Women's Breast Cancer and Health", in order to discuss the causes of the increase in the number of cases of breast cancer in young women and to share the emerging advances in this area. This conference is organised by Breast Cancer in Young Women Foundation.
CUF, the largest private cancer care network in Portugal and the third largest at national level in terms of diagnosis, committed to actively contributing to the promotion of early breast cancer diagnosis and to the discussion of treatment options capable of ensuring quality of life for young women with breast cancer, hosts this conference. The event is promoted by the Breast Cancer in Young Women Foundation (BCYW Foundation) - a non-profit organisation dedicated to breast cancer literacy and research among young women.
The international conference brings together speakers from various parts of the world - USA, Canada, Mexico, Portugal, Spain, Ireland, Austria, India, Japan and Australia, among others - and from different disciplines, all global leaders for breast health and cancer prevention, including researchers, oncologists, surgeons, pathologists, economists, public health experts, epidemiologists and representatives of patient and survivor associations.
All speakers are driven by the urgency of discussing responses to the challenges faced by young women diagnosed with breast cancer.
The internationally acclaimed researchers who will attend this conference include:
- Ellen Warner, Professor of the Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto, Canada;
- Marie Jeanne Vrancken Peeters, breast cancer survivor, Co-founder of the Dutch National Breast Cancer Audit and the Dutch Working Group of Breast Cancer Surgeons;
- Miguel Martín Jiménez, Professor and Director of the Medical Oncology Service at the Gregorio Marañon University Hospital and Professor at Complutense University in Madrid;
- Luís Costa, Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon and Head of the Translational Oncobiology Laboratory of the Institute of Molecular Medicine of Lisbon.
