Hospitalisation

Before hospitalisation

  • If you are covered by a health subsystem or insurance, you need to speak to your doctor to request authorisation for hospitalisation - Statement of Responsibility. Check your cover with the entity in charge.
  • If there is no Statement of Responsibility, you will be asked to make a deposit on admission.
  • If you are not covered by a health subsystem or insurance, you will be asked to make a deposit on admission.
  • Upon arrival at the hospital, report to the central reception for registry. You will be asked to present the following documents: identification (identity card / citizen’s card) and, if applicable, a Statement of Responsibility issued by the entity responsible for paying your health expenses and your insurance and subsystem card.

During your stay at the hospital

  • CUF hospitals have single, double and triple rooms, with private bathrooms, television, telephone, internet, air conditioning and a range of other amenities for your comfort.
  • Patients and family members are asked not to leave valuables in the room, as the hospital will not be held responsible for them. The rooms have lockers to store your belongings and you or your main caregiver will be responsible for the keys.
  • You can use your own toiletries, pyjamas, robe and slippers, although you can also use those provided by the hospital.
  • Bring your usual medication.
  • Smoking is not permitted inside the hospital premises.

Companions

  • Single hospital rooms have an extra bed for a companion, who can stay overnight. The overnight stay will be charged for at the current rate.
  • Companions can use the private bathroom.
  • The daily rate for a companion includes breakfast, which is served in the cafeteria.

Visits

  • No more than two visitors at a time are recommended, to ensure that the patient gets enough rest and recovery time.
  • Visits by children under 12 must be authorised in advance by the charge nurse.
  • Visits may be prohibited or the number or schedule of visits reduced on doctor’s orders or at the patient’s request.

Meals

  • While in hospital, patients have a choice of meals, while respecting the diet prescribed by their attending physician. Exceptionally, on the day of admission, if food is not contraindicated, the meals will not be chosen by the patient.
  • It is not advisable to bring food from home as adequate storage conditions are not available. If food is brought in, the team must be informed and will decide, on the basis of the patient's prescribed diet and clinical health condition, whether s/he will be allowed to eat it.

Going home

  • Upon discharge, it is important for you to share with the team any queries about medications, dietary restrictions or special precautions.
  • Before leaving the hospital, make sure that you take all your personal effects and the necessary documentation - discharge note, prescriptions and details of doctor’s appointments and scheduled dressing changes or exams.
  • You are asked to vacate your hospital room by midday, otherwise you may be charged for another day.

We hope to minimise the inconvenience caused by your health condition and being away from home, and will do everything we can to make your stay comfortable and ensure your quick recovery.
