Frequently Asked Questions
Can I have tests done without a prescription?
It is possible to have some simple laboratory tests done without having a prescription. Just remember that without a prescription your insurance will not cover the procedure, so you will have to pay for laboratory tests as a private patient.
Whenever a patient does not present a medical prescription, if s/he is eligible for the procedure, s/he will have to sign a consent form taking responsibility for having laboratory tests without a doctor’s prescription.
What are the sample collection times and locations for laboratory tests of hospitals and clinics CUF?
Sample collection times and locations for laboratory tests can be viewed in the CUF Services menu. Select the Clinical Services page and browse to the Lab Test area, where you can see the list of health units in the CUF network.
Click here for direct access to the Lab Test page.
What documents do I need to bring with me when I do the test?
When carrying out laboratory tests, bring your prescription, identification and your insurer or health subsystem card.
What is the time limit for an exam collection?
Results will be available for collection at the hospital or clinic where the examination was carried out for one year after it was conducted.
What is the validity of a lab test prescription?
The validity of a medical prescription for laboratory tests depends on your insurance or health subsystem:
- Insurance companies: 6 months (except for prolonged treatments, for example physical medicine and rehabilitation and speech therapy);
- Health subsystem (public or private): 1 year.
Who can take delivery of results of laboratory tests?
Your information is personal and non-transferable, so the results of your laboratory tests can only be given to you.
Parents can also receive the test results of their dependants under the age of 16 on submission of their own and their child’s ID documents.
Owners of this information can transfer this responsibility, provided that they fill in the appropriate fields on the collection slip given to them at the health unit at the time of the exam. They have to identify the person to whom they are transferring this responsibility and their ID number. When collecting the exam results, the person must bring the collection slip with the transfer of responsibility indicated on it, their ID document and a copy of the citizen's card of the owner of the results.
Don’t forget that the result of your laboratory tests is also available on My CUF, after you validate your account for full access to all features in person at a CUF hospital or clinic.
